A quick update - the head unit arrived on Friday and was fitted yesterday. 3 weeks and 2 days is much better than 14 weeks, but still much too long imho!

My Premium GTI had it's 2nd yearly device on Jan 8th. The map update procedure stopped the Head Unit controls working correctly. The dealer has ordered a replacement head unit and pulled the fuse so the car is usable but with no infotainment, satnav or rear-view camera. I had heard nothing since, so...

It also depends on the electrics you are using. For example, my stop/start won't work if I have the fan turned up more than 3 bars.

By "the standard type" I meant the ones that were on the car when I bought it new (in the UK). I can't see any ID on the actual blades.
I've checked online and makers who quote the OEM No. are Ridex, Stark and Valeo.

My standard wiper blades have always wiped very well.
If yours do it when they are perfectly clean perhaps there is a very slight flaw in your windscreen.
