Hi,
First question and hopefully it's not already been answered I have looked.
I have the new model Kona electric and have had no problems charging it except at Gridserve high speed sites, which is annoys they seem to be the only option at motorway services near me.
I plug in use my credit card and it gives a few clicks and then says that they cannot communicate with the car I have had error codes 011 and 006 Gridserve have checked and restarted the charger but can't fix the issue. Is this common or do other Kona drivers have no problem?
All other chargers seem fine.
Gridserve charging issues Kona 24
Yep, I had this last weekend, spent half an hour on phone to Gridserve, changed to a different charger and still didn't work. I was concerned as I hadn't used a DC charger since I bought it. However subsequent charges on other chargers were ok and then charged ok on a Gridserve 50 kW on Thursday. Had a similar problem once with my previous Kona on a Gridserve charger but other times were OK. I guess could take it to a dealer but it's such a random problem it may be difficult to diagnose.
I have identical issue with my 24 Kona...it is 3m old, 2,500m covered, half on long distance and completed TWO round trips where I was 100% reliant on DC/Rapids and have failed on three of the four legs of these journeys. I have a failed connection at Gridserve (on multiple chargers), but also a single Ionity and Instavolt also failed me. Last night (leg 4 of 4) I spent time testing my connection at plug-in and have a video recording me connecting VERY firmly and straight into a charger, only for it to fail to start. I then unplug, and plug back in AND HOLD IT IN POSITION, while starting and it works. It literally feels like it needs 20 seconds of "perfect" connection to initiate the charge process. Once the handshake is done I can release it and it continues.
My Dealership is aware of my problems, but have only looked at car log so far, but it is booked in now for further diagnosis and they will be testing the connection, hopefully to report and resolve. So far I have zero interest from them in resolving as they cannot find a fault onboard, so I need them to see my video and hopefully replicate this.
After 3.5 yrs running an eNiro with few issues (other than early 2020 poor infrastructure/support problems) over 35k miles around UK, I am pretty disappointed with DC charging experience so far with the Kona.
I will update this post when I get news again - but I think it is important that this gets reported because this is pretty fundamental to our long-range driving experience - I looked a complete lemon holding the charging plug into my car (like wrestling an anaconda!) but had to do it to get the charge in and get my family home.
p.s. I would be interested for your feedback if you are able to try this also! It takes ~20 secs in my experience for a DC to handshake/start up.

This this very interesting as I discovered at Grid Serve at Wetherby M1 services this week, same issue, plug my 2024 65wh into the rapid charger, takes my £1 charge from my debit card then tries to connect, stops immedately, tried this on two different rapid chargers, the chargers themselves are work fine as I moved to a other bay, my previous charger that didn't work for me was happy to charge a MG, now in a panic I switched over to a 50kwh charger, and, worked first time, so with what i read on here there is a clear issue, not to sure if it's all 350kwh chargers or just Grid Serve? As it's my first time in rapid, the best part I sell Hyundai for a living , main dealer, currently on Holiday at the minute , but when I get back to work will report the issue? Anyone else coming up with the same problem?
After 1,500 miles in last month or so across the country (and using a lot of Rapid Chargers), I have concluded that the Gridserve charger connection is the most frequent fail for me, though I know to overcome the initial "handshake" fail by holding the plug firmly in the car socket. I have experienced bad connections with Ionity and Instavolt, though they are not as consistently bad as Gridserve. I've got a video recording a "firm" connection with a Gridserve at Exeter M5 services that fails, then on trying again with me holding the plug in firmly, it works. I am (finally) booked in at local dealership on Monday next week (5th Aug) and will report back with any progress made.
I have the same problem with my 2024 Kona N-line. I have tried Exeter Services, Reading Services and today Chieveley services. All high power ABB chargers. I get error code 011 ot 006. I contacted Gridserve help line again today and we tried various things but none worked. I'm not convinced by the holding the connector tight into the socket method. They have my contact details and full car details so maybe they will come up with something. I have successfully charged at Tesla (V3 & V4), BP, Shell, Podpoint, Osprey, Instavolt and Gridserve medium power chargers although Shell, Podpoint and Osprey were all using the same Tritium chargers. Need to try a Kempro at Osprey or Sainsburys. I previously had an MG5 for 3 years and didn't have any problems except faulty chargers (and Tesla which was later fixed). I suppose I need to contact a dealer but I think I will just be fobbed off.
Dear all, I've had my Kona in this past week at dealership (full three days!) and now have them acknowledging there can be a problem if the connection is not "good". The current agreed solution is for the car to be setup with locking the plug on connection - it is a setting in the EV menu - so that whenever the plug is detected/connected the car makes a lock/good connection, so in theory you can then lean across to the screen/pad and start the charging session. The error we are all experiencing apparently is the failed pin connection on the lock when the plug is not quite in position i.e. at Gridserve when the plug is loose.
I've got a couple of long drives later this month and in September, and so I will be using M5 services at Exeter for sure (and where I consistently get a fail) - and will report back to see if this is a working solution.
Hyundai have asked that I report back if this solution does not work, so I have an open channel back to them if this persists - though I am not sure what they will do.

Hi, how did you do this? I can only find an option to lock the cable when AC charging on my car. Good that Hyundai are taking notice of this issue now.ballikev wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 9:09 am Dear all, I've had my Kona in this past week at dealership (full three days!) and now have them acknowledging there can be a problem if the connection is not "good".
