I had my first experience today of charging my Kona at a Polar

I arrived with around 20% charge and after following the very clear instructions I connected the CCS to my car.
Energy flow quickly settled at around 42 Kw/hr and it was a pleasure to sit and watch the mile range creep up.

Wonderful to see that a range, with regeneration, in excess of 300 miles would be within reach.

I have no experience of electric cars. How much would it cost to fully charge your car at a polar. I notice there is a £10 an hour overstay charge. I need educating in this area.

Recharging my Kona EV from empty would require
64 Kw of electricity.
The cost will depend on the supplier. If it is possible to charge overnight on a special low rate tariff it is probable that the cost would be around £6.00.

Using the Polar charge service as I did today and as a subscribing member, £7.85 per month, the cost per Kw is 10.8p/ Kw. The £7.85 subscription is paid for me by OVO my energy provider as a special offer for two years.
So the cost for me today charging from 20% to around 80%, which required around 45kw, was approx £4.50.

The time limit of 90 minutes is largely irrelevant because once the charging level reaches around 80%
the process is severely restricted in order to protect the life of the battery.
Most cars using the charger will have achieved 80% recharge after an hour and so will be pleased to unplug and move off. The other 20% of charge might take another hour so Polar take the view that a stay of over 90 minutes is simply selfish behaviour and that comes at a cost :)

Thanks. £6 for 300 miles is very good. I suppose I am paying around 60 euros to fill the tank with around 300 mile range. Maybe next time we will get an electric car.

You should investigate the level of incentive provided by the French government, I benefited from a £4500 grant from the U.K. government to switch to a zero emission vehicle.
It is expected that within the next few years the capital cost of an electric car will have achieved parity with an ICE.
