The 'youth' emphasized in the small SUV Kona is not only meant for young age, but also aims to be a 'smart challenger' that does not fear rational and sound challenges to realize its dreams and values. It is designed with the youthful mind as the main customer.

In particular, Hyundai Motor is concentrating on giving aggressive design characters that distinguish itself from top models such as Tucson and Santa Fe, considering that the B segment SUV market in which Kona enters is the most competitive market in the world, Respectively.

To this end, Kona has a low and wide stance that embodies a solid and dynamic silhouette (overall outline), a cascading grill symbolizing Hyundai Motors, a slim weekly driving light (DRL) Composite Lamp with main lamp divided into upper and lower parts

Original design elements such as 'Armor' which reminds the protection equipment of ice hockey players and protects bumpers, lamps and wheels, 'Armor' It was applied.

First of all, the front side design adopts a mesh type large cascading grill with a low and wide stance and a low and wide view compared to the existing SUV. A sharp, high-tech LED light source DRL is arranged at the top of the grill Emphasize future-oriented feelings.

In addition, the bumper garnish (Armor), which tightly surrounds the head lamps and bumper front and wheel arches, makes it as robust as ice hockey players wearing robust protective gear.

The side design emphasizes the intense image of 'challenger Kona' by emphasizing the dramatic contrast through the combination of lines, materials and colors.

Highly stable and speedy feeling through the low altitude that looks like a guard from the front and rear bumper to the wheel arch
The character line that extends from the top of the front wheel arch to the rear wheel arch and emphasizes the volume feeling C Shark fin shape "shark fin filler detail" was applied to the filler.

The rear design uses composite lamps separated from the top and bottom, main rear lamps, bumper garnishes surrounding the rear side of the bumper, volume bumper and skid plate to emphasize the unity of the front design, strong and strong feel.

In addition, two-tone roof with different body and color applied to add a personality to the exterior design.
On the other hand, Kona's interior design provides a stable and comfortable interior space with "customer convenience" at the top of the dramatic contrast to the intense appearance.

The low and wide stance lowered the altitude to improve the stability of the road, while the ground clearance and the altitude optimization allow the driver to have sufficient visibility and to run comfortably.

Along with this, the horizontal layout provides a wide open feeling and a pleasant view, while the navigation and AVN monitors are arranged at the same height as the cluster (instrument panel), and the buttons are integrated according to various functions, thereby enhancing the operator's concentration and usability.

Best-in-class powertrain, 4-wheel drive system and multi-link suspension for best driving performance

Hyundai's global compact SUV Kona has been developed as a 'complete SUV' that combines both the merits of the existing small SUVs, as well as the parts that were not covered by the competition model, and the merchandise that was not compatible with conventional stereotypes.

Based on this philosophy of product development, Kona has three special features: small but strong, stylish, yet safe, and versatile yet easy to use, and an SUV that is easy to get on and off.

The 'small but powerful' Kona has a strong driving performance that is difficult to expect from conventional compact SUVs, even though it is a small SUV.

To this end, Kona plans to launch the 1.6 gasoline turbo GDi engine as well as the 1.6 diesel eVGT engine, which is applied to the upper class, to the market by applying the optimal power train reflecting the characteristics and market conditions of each region.

First, the 1.6-gasoline turbo GDi engine with the highest output of 177 horsepower (ps) and the maximum torque of 27.0 kgf
The 1.6 diesel engine with maximum output of 136 horsepower (ps) and maximum torque of 30.6 kgf ㆍ m And a seven-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT).

In Europe, the gasoline turbo GDi engine will be applied first, the 1.6 gasoline turbo GDi engine will be applied first, and the 1.6 diesel engine will be added next year. In North America, 1.6 gasoline turbo GDi engine and 2.0 gasoline MPi engine will be applied.

Kona has adopted a new four-wheel drive system and rear multi-link suspension based on a completely new compact platform designed to deliver optimum driving performance with powerful engine performance. (However, application of 4-wheel drive system & rear multi-link suspension depends on area and specifications)

In addition, the new platform applied to Kona has a low center of gravity design that embodies a low and wide stance, resulting in sleek body adjustment and a stable driving sensation that were unattainable in conventional SUVs.

In addition, the low and wide stance, which is 50mm lower than the competition, is realized, while the four-wheel drive system and the multi-link suspension with many undercarriages are applied, the floor (floor) To ensure optimum performance considering both driving performance and interior space.

Ensuring the highest level of safety that breaks prejudice against compact cars

Kona has significantly expanded its parts with newly developed platforms with Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and Hot Stamping to eliminate the prejudice that "small cars are not safe".

It increased the torsional stiffness by more than 20% compared to the competitors by applying structural adhesives (114.5m) to increase the ratio of high tensile strength steel including super high tensile steel to the highest level in its class and increase the connection rigidity between vehicle structures.

In particular, to protect passengers safely in the event of a side collision, HYUNDAI MOTOR has applied the ultra-high tensile steel side impact member with a tensile strength of 120kg / ㎟ or more for the first time inside the door, thereby reducing the volume and weight of parts and ensuring higher impact safety.

At the same time, when a collision occurs, the impact energy is distributed over various paths, and a small, stylish, and safe SUV is completed by applying a multi-load path structure that minimizes the amount of impact transmitted to passengers.

In addition, by adopting the advanced intelligent safety technology 'Hyundai SmartSense', we will consider the needs of smart consumers and present the standard of safety that the next generation global SUV should have.

Modern smart sense has to be applied to the nose to prevent frontal collision accessories (FCA: Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist,)
lane-keeping assist (LKA: Lane Keeping Assist) driver inattention warning (DAW: Driver Attention Warning) posterolateral Collision Warning ( BCW: Blind-spot Collision Warning & RCCW (Rfx Cross Collision Warning). (※ However, Hyundai SmartSense is operated as an option and it is different depending on region.)

Through this, Kona aims to achieve the highest safety rating in all crash tests including KNCAP, Euro NCAP, and IIHS small collision test as well as KNCAP.

Convenience and package design with increased usability considering the convenience of passengers as top priority

Based on a thorough customer-oriented development philosophy, Kona took into consideration the tastes of younger generations, which are the main customers of small SUVs.

First of all, Kona has the first-ever head-up display (HUD) in its class to allow the driver to concentrate on driving while driving, and offers the same driving experience as sitting in a fighter cockpit with a head-up display in the form of a combiner .

The 'Combiner Head-Up Display' displays driving information on a separate glass (glass) plate in contrast to the way that the driving information is projected on the windshield of the driver's seat. The head-up display applied to Kona- It is hidden, but it adopts the vertical opening and closing method which is automatically raised only at the time of operation.

Hyundai maximized driving convenience by increasing the amount of display information such as road information and speed information, as well as cutting-edge driving safety technology operation information.

In addition, we applied the latest infotainment system such as Apple car play and mirror link which can apply smart phone wireless charging system and connect the smartphone with the car. In addition to this, we can apply the 8 inch navigation system and the Creel sound system according to the specifications. To meet the needs of the generations.

Kona applied a design that increased the comfort of passengers to get on and off, considering that existing SUVs are advantageous in securing a wide field of view due to high altitude, but the passengers feel uncomfortable when getting on and off.

It optimizes the arrangement of the driving parts and exhaust parts located in the lower part of the body, lowering the indoor floor (floor) of the boarding space, and securing a wide open space for entry and exit compared to the competition.

In addition, Kona was developed to optimize cargo loading from the initial stage so as not to lose its original strength as a multipurpose SUV.

Through this, we secured a freight loading space of about 360 liters, which is superior to the competitors of the same class, based on the VDA method of measuring freight loading space in Europe, and lowered the height of the trunk entrance to load and unload freely.

In addition, the two-row seat full-flat function and the luggage base two-stage board that can adjust the height of the trunk floor in two stages are applied to maximize the loading space when necessary.

Won't lie. Reading up all of this information makes me want to get one that's for sure. Mostly because I dig the sub-compact models a lot. They're not hugely and grossly oversized and are perfect for small, winding, narrow streets WHILE also being good for open country roads. Plus Hyundai. For an export, they make good cars.
