Hi,

This post is more for information purposes.

I took ownership of my new 2024 Kona Ultimate in May and for the first three weeks everything was fine. Then for no reason, I was unable to open the sun roof. I went back to the dealer and they booked it in but were unable to fix it. They told me it would need a new sun roof motor and booked it in for yesterday. On Sunday (the day before) I was unable to open the car door as a result of a dead battery even though I had driven it the day before. I opened the door by removing the cover on the driver's side and using the key. I reset the 12v battery, the car started and I took it for a drive to re-charge the battery.

I took the car into the garage yesterday for the sun roof motor to be replaced and on the way decided to give it one final chance to see if it was working and low and behold it opened without any problems. Obviously the 12v battery reset solved the problem. I left the car with the garage to check the battery to see if there were any problems but they couldn't find any faults.

Interestingly, a friend of mine who bought the same model a month before me has also had to reset the 12v battery and use the key to gain access manually.

I hope this is of use.

Thanks for the information David, but can you please clarify what you mean by "reset the 12v battery".

I have an Electric Kona Ultimate I took delivery of in April and can find no reference in the manual to resetting the 12v battery although there do appear to be several things that will be reset or that you need to reset (including the sun roof) if you disconnect the battery.

Thanks.

Sorry Mike, I should have mentioned that I have a Hybrid so I don't know if the 12v reset button exists on the the Electric model. It is very clearly marked on the Hybrid and was one of the main points highlighted by the salesman on both this and my previous Kona Hybrid. The reason given was that if the car is left idle for a couple of weeks for example at an airport carpark, the battery would shutdown to protect it and would need to be reset after gaining manual access to the car. It never happened on my previous Kona and I wasn't expecting it to happen after being left idle for 20 hours but at least I now know how to fix it.

Cheers,

David.

Apologies if this sounds a little bit strange but I am looking for information on the mechanical/emergency key for the Kona.

I bought an ex demo N line S last week and, on reading the manual, found out about the physical key. I only received two remote fobs with no mention of a "real" key but noticed you mentioned a real key in your message - where can I find it? Is it inside one of the key fobs?

Thanks.

Hi,

From memory I think my old Kona Hybrid had the manual key inserted within the key fob but my new Kona Hybrid has a separate small key along with the key fob and the dealer tag. To gain manual access to the car you need to pull the driver door handle towards you and you will see a small slot into which the small key is inserted and then the plastic cover next to the door handle will pop off and the manual key slot will appear allowing you access. I am not sure if it is the same on your model but I hope this helps.

Cheers,

David.

Hi David,
I'm experiencing some odd behaviour with my Sunroof. I have Kona Electric, just 4 months old. This is the second time the sunroof will not function - previously it went for 48 hours and then for no apparent reason started working again. And then today it has done it again - dead as a dodo, although the internal cover glides back and forward, so not entirely sure this is motor related (unless the cover operates with a separate motor....?).

I am awaiting on work to be done through Dealership on my chargeport (which is intermittently failing) and so will report this issue to them again (they know already but found no problem).

Thought helpful to post on here in case others are experiencing this odd, intermittent problem.

Kevin
