When we got our Kona it was fitted with a conventional set of wipers. Right in the centre of viewing area they left a smudge. They cleared the glass fine on the way up but not on the way down.
I found this very dangerous at night. I bought a set of Bosh Aerotwin wipers but they do exactly the same thing. I thought it might be wax on the windscreen but I have cleaned it with soap, screen cleaner and methylated spirits.
It seams as though the passenger's blade sweeps up and, as the driver's blade goes down, it just smudges the screen right in the centre.
I have tried bending the wipers and adjusting the wiper arm. Every thing I do makes no difference.
What wipers do you use to get a good sweep of your windscreen?

My standard wiper blades have always wiped very well.

If yours do it when they are perfectly clean perhaps there is a very slight flaw in your windscreen.

That does not sound good.
What type are the standard type?
I am going to try a cheep wiper and see how that goes.

By "the standard type" I meant the ones that were on the car when I bought it new (in the UK). I can't see any ID on the actual blades.

I've checked online and makers who quote the OEM No. are Ridex, Stark and Valeo.

Thanks for the information. ffox. We got our Kona second hand so I was not sure if the previous owner had changed the blades.

Update.
The blades that came with the car smeared on the way down in the central part of the screen. I cleaned the screen with soap, meths and even vinegar to no avail. I bought a pair of expensive BOCH blades. The smudge remains. As a last resort I bought a cheep one from a discount store. The result is perfectly clean screen on the way up and on the way down. One happy bunny.

I don't suppose you know if the cheap blade is softer or harder than your original one?

I'll let you know tomorrow. I think my problem was the spring arm being to forceful and lifting the centre of the blade off the glass. It was the only thing that was annoying me about the car. Now I can go out in the rain with no worries.

Checked them both this morning. They look very similar and the rubber feels the same. This was not a scientific comparison.

Fair enough - thanks for looking.
If it's the spring arm being too forceful then you'd have thought it should be the same for all blades - unless the blades differ in some way.
