Descending steep hills

Hi, I know this may seem a bit of a silly question but I'm a bit new to automatic hybrid cars and was wondering how do I descend a steep Hill (1 in 3) ? Can you change drive mode while driving to sport mode and select a low gear. Or do you use Reginative breaking to slow the car down.

I use the regen paddles a lot to slow the car down on inclines. It probably saves wear on discs but I wonder if it is wearing something else out instead. lol
